The Call for Code Global Challenge—created by David Clark Cause and supported by Founding Partner IBM and Charitable Partner United Nations Human Rights—invites developers and problem-solvers around the world to build solutions that fight back against the most pressing issues of our time.
To celebrate 2019's Call for Code finalists and raise awareness around the code solutions helping to solve the world's most pressing issues, we created a 360-degree theater where the evening's emotional, shocking, and inspiring stories unfolded. Dinner culminated with the award ceremony, where the winning team was presented with the $200,000 grand prize

The Ask
In this immersive multimedia exhibition, powerful audio and visuals put guests in the epicenter of a natural disaster. While hearing the roar of a wildfire, the swell of a tsunami, or the howling winds of a hurricane, Gallery viewers also observed stories of Code & Response solutions built to aid or prevent these disasters—all told through imagery, artifacts, and statistics.
The Solution
For this first-of-its-kind experience, Drury outfitted a series of tower viewers with AR technology. Through the viewers, attendees saw real, 360-degree landscapes affected by natural disasters while interactive pop-up messages gave deeper info about Code & Response's solutions. This activation became a metaphorical “window to the world"—making a powerful statement on the impact of natural disasters delivered through a visceral, tangible medium.

The Results
These spaces allowed attendees to grab a drink, network, and pose for pictures in front of a step-and-repeat. Branded coasters featuring provocative slogans created for our "Code Can_" theme were placed on highboy tables throughout the space. Meanwhile, elegant classical music established the prestige of the event and its venue.
