The Ask
Drury produced a film contest where students and alumni from top media schools were given state-of-the-art equipment capable of capturing stunning HD footage in 360º—allowing them to tell new stories via breathtaking, totally immersive shorts. We then held a film festival, where audiences were able to explore the winning 360º journeys by interacting with them on Samsung VR Headsets.
The Solution
Working with the state-of-the-art camera company, 360fly, Drury was able to donate twenty 360º cameras to NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts and the Rhode Island School of Design.
The Results
The students took the medium in directions we never could have anticipated. They produced thought-provoking, inspiring work that set the stage for VR’s impact on the art world. The videos amassed thousands of views over a three-week period.
"
"We tapped into the fresh perspective of young talent at two of the world’s top film schools, NYU and Rhode Island School of Design. Across two screenings at the schools, hundreds of attendees were able to experience submitted films on new VR headsets provided by contest sponsor Samsung. The winning films in each of the four categories received $500, plus a new 4K 360fly camera."
